Senior School Electives
Year 7 to Year 9 at Essington
We acknowledge the importance of hands-on learning for student development. We have elective programs in Years 7 to 9 that provide immersive, hands-on learning experiences to foster motivation and skill acquisition.
In Year 7, students select one elective per semester. In Years 8-9, they choose two electives. The diversity of elective options throughout the academic year helps broaden students' self-awareness and exposure to different subject areas. Elective options per year level can be viewed below:
Year 10 to Year 12 At Essington
The Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET), is a qualification that provides entry into universities and further training facilities. It is recognised both nationally and internationally.
Stage 1 and Stage 2
The NTCET consists of two stages: Stage 1, which, at Essington is completed during Years 10 and 11, and Stage 2, which is completed during Years 11 and 12.
In Stage 1 of the NTCET, subjects are graded from A to E, and teachers assess all tasks at the Senior School. Additionally, external moderation is conducted for Mathematics, English, and EIF (Exploring Identities and Futures).
In Stage 2, subjects are graded from A+ to E. For assessments, 70% of tasks, such as assignments, are assessed by the student’s teacher and moderated by the SACE Board, while 30%, including final examinations and investigations, are externally assessed and marked by a SACE Board assessor. To achieve NTCET, students must complete a minimum of 60 credits through Stage 2 subjects, courses, or Vocational Education Training For School Students (VETfSS) programs.
