Senior School At Essington

Welcome to the Senior Years at The Essington School (Years 7–12) — a pivotal and exciting stage of your child’s educational journey. At Essington, we are proud to guide students through this transformative period with a curriculum that blends academic rigour, wellbeing, and opportunity.

Our program provides a seamless progression from the Australian Curriculum (ACARA) in Years 7–9 into the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) in Years 10–12. Through early access to SACE and a carefully scaffolded approach, students build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for success in their senior studies and beyond. Learning is inquiry-based and hands-on, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving for life in the 21st century.

Beyond the classroom, our strong pastoral care system supports each student’s social and emotional wellbeing. Dedicated staff work closely with families to nurture resilience, self-awareness, and belonging. A rich co-curricular program — including sport, arts, leadership, and service — allows students to explore passions and make meaningful contributions to their community.

At Essington, high expectations go hand in hand with care and respect. Our Student Code of Conduct and school policies help create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment where every student can thrive. They provide clear guidance around behaviour, wellbeing, and responsibilities, supporting students to make good choices and contribute positively to our school community.

Student Leadership in the Senior School

Students at The Essington School are encouraged to adopt leadership positions.

These voluntary positions are an opportunity for our students to develop their self-confidence in public roles. Student leaders develop skills in organisation, management, mentoring and liaison. Through these leadership programs we have seen students become role models and mentors to other students in the Essington community.

Our students show respect for each other's individuality, and throughout the application process for leadership positions the students show each other compassion, support and encouragement. The leadership opportunities available to students include:

  • School Captains and Vice Captains (Third Year)
  • Student Representative Council (SRC)
  • House Captains
  • The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award
