Senior School Resources
The Senior School curriculum allows for flexible learning options.
Welcome to the senior years at The Essington School, spanning Years 7 through 12. This is an exciting and transformative stage of your child's educational journey, and we are honoured to guide them through this pivotal time.
Our curriculum in the senior years is carefully designed to provide a seamless progression from the Australian Curriculum (ACARA) in Years 7 - 9 to the rigorous South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) program in Years 10-12. At Essington, our students access a unique curriculum that enables our students early access to the SACE program, allowing for increased success in Year 12. Our teachers work collaboratively to map the connections between these two frameworks, ensuring our students develop the essential knowledge, skills, and capabilities required for SACE success and beyond.
Through a scaffolded approach, we gradually introduce SACE-aligned content and assessment practices, allowing students to build a strong foundation for their senior studies. This includes opportunities for hands-on, inquiry-based learning that foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving - all vital attributes for thriving in the 21st century.
Beyond the classroom, our senior students benefit from a robust pastoral care system that supports their social, emotional, and wellbeing needs. Our dedicated team of Pastoral Care Directors, Assistant Heads of School, and student support staff work closely with students and families to navigate the unique challenges of adolescence. We empower our senior students through targeted programs and one-on-one guidance to develop resilience, self-awareness, and a strong sense of community.
Complementing our academic and pastoral initiatives are a wide range of co-curricular activities that enrich the Essington experience. From sporting opportunities and performing arts ensembles to community service projects and leadership roles, there are boundless opportunities for our senior students to explore their interests, develop their talents, and make meaningful contributions to the school and broader community.
As Head of Senior School, I am deeply committed to ensuring each student's individual needs are met and that they are empowered to pursue their passions and reach their full potential. Through our holistic, student centred approach, we aim to cultivate confident, adaptable, and socially conscious graduates who are well-prepared for the future.

Student Leadership in the Senior School
Students at The Essington School are encouraged to adopt leadership positions.
These voluntary positions are an opportunity for our students to develop their self-confidence in public roles. Student leaders develop skills in organisation, management, mentoring and liaison. Through these leadership programs we have seen students become role models and mentors to other students in the Essington community.
Our students show respect for each other's individuality, and throughout the application process for leadership positions the students show each other compassion, support and encouragement. The leadership opportunities available to students include:
- School Captains and Vice Captains (Third Year)
- Student Representative Council (SRC)
- House Captains
- The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award
