Year 5 Parliament House Excursion
On Thursday the Year 5 students visited Parliament House. After learning about democratic processes last term, it was great to be able to see a sitting day. Speaker of the House, Mr Mark Monaghan gave a shout-out to the classes which made them feel like celebrities.
We were lucky enough to see and speak with Chief Minister Natasha Fyles and newly elected member for Fannie Bay, Mr Brent Potter, who answered many questions!
A tour of the historical elements of the buildings and grounds gave us a great sense of the important work that has happened over the years.
The students participated in a mock election where they were tasked with convincing the voters of which candidate had the best idea for school improvement. They then filled out ballots and found a clear winner.
The teachers and students had a fantastic morning and enjoyed the VIP treatment provided by the sitting members and tour facilitators.
