Tournament of Minds develops creative thinking, teamwork, and collaborative skills to solve open-ended challenges.

Recently The Essington School STEM Team won the Tournament of Minds International Competition. This is the first time in 8 years that a Northern Territory team has won this prestigious award.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns, the competition looked a little different this year, with the International Final held as a virtual event in Perth, showcasing the talents of over 50 teams from around Australia.

"I praise the efforts of the students who have been greatly supported by a talented and hardworking team of teachers".

— Principal, Brian Kennelly

Essington’s teams competed strongly throughout the competition and we congratulate The Essington STEM team of Joe, Jase, Ari, Jovianne, Ruvinya, Anna and Theo (pictured) for their dedication and effort.

Sara Materazzo, Essington’s Tournament of Minds coordinator was very proud of her students’ achievements: “Proud is an understatement for this talented and committed group of students who have worked so hard, and to have won this prestigious award is a dream come true for them”.

The Essington School has never won the Tournament of Minds International Competition, making this win even more special. Principal, Brian Kennelly says “I praise the efforts of the students who have been greatly supported by a talented and hardworking team of teachers”.
